After years of opinions, diatribes, and alleged inspiration, the Facebook friends kind-heartedly suggested I write a book, or a column, or as Lois demanded, “Blog, woman”!!!
And thus, a new blog was born; another Phoenix rose up from my nine lives. Henceforth, I AM Blog Woman!!!
So, maybe a comment on news now and then, as a former paid informant (newspaper), but mostly just a personal insight or an opinion on all sorts of life minutes. Yes, it may be a little self-indulgent, and hey who cares about my opinion, but if you can’t talk to your friends and family, then who? Right? By the way, if you’re reading my blogs, welcome to the family!
Mostly, this is for my insatiable need to write and for my son. My posts are ostensibly letters to him. I am hopeful the record will show what I stood for, and even what my foibles were, and that ultimately, he will still be proud of the person he calls mom.
As a citizen of the Cree and Michif Nations, I stand up for all Indigenous Peoples. Please allow me to clarify the “Metis” confusion that still abounds in Canada. “Metis” is a nation, a nationality of a specific ancestral group. We are not what was taught for decades in Canada – which is, any Indigenous nation mixed with Europeans means one is “Metis”. If one is of mixed ancestry, but is not Metis specific, that means one is known as non-status First Nation of whichever nation the Indigenous ancestor is from. Metis is not a ‘racial’ qualification, nor does ‘blood quantum’ apply.
I’d also like people to know that seeking justice for the most marginalized is not about living in the past. It’s about acknowledging how many benefited then and still benefit from the injustices toward us. Dishonoring the original treaties is where the failures began.
Thanks so much for the visit.

Hey Robyn! Now that the holidays are over, I’ve been able to spend some time reading some of the blogs I’ve had on my list to really peruse — yours was among the top. I just wanted to say how wonderfully insightful your posts are, whether self-written or reblogged. I also wanted to let you know I just signed your copy of Humor at the Speed of Life and it’s going out Monday.
Thanks so much for “being my No. 1 groupie.”
And my only groupie.
But hey, that just means you’ll always be No. 1! 😉

Hi Ned! Thank you for the visit. I imagine you have quite a number of us that fly by on your reader, so I really appreciate that you came by. I also thank you, very much, for the kind words on my musings.
As for being your only groupie, I’m sure I’m not really the only one. I can only surmise that the rest are just kowed into shy silence by starry-eyed intimidation. But, yes, I will always have being No. 1 (first to declare it out loud). 🙂
Really looking forward to getting the book. I hope your success with it goes far above and beyond your own highest hopes.

Hi blog woman, what a wonderful legacy of you for your son, i feel much the same way. my daughter will be 21 next month and she is sharing in my blogging journey. she’s always known my childhood was difficult and she has been with me through my health struggles but now she is getting to know me as i wish i had gotten to know the important people in my life who died when i was younger. it’s bringing us even closer and i am glad she is able to understand me better.
co-founding a charity must have felt like a labour of love, another legacy! i have enjoyed reading through a few blogs and will be back for more!

Hi living – LOL, love that salutation. Yes, you ARE living, even with struggles that temporarily halt efforts.
Thank you for the kind words. It’s funny how struggles help us get to a place where we want our babies to learn out lessons faster and with less pain, and know who we are and why. There is definitely a strong bond effect in this, which I am thrilled is evident even with my boy, who is only 12. It all really does mean a lot.
The charity work is also amazing – I actually work with a few groups, but food for the soul is the point of life to my mind.
Anyway, I can see that you have been reading quite a bit! That’s awesome, thank you so much for that, and your likes and comments. Really great to get this from you. Cheers!

Hello TJ – nice to see you again! 🙂 Hey, I stalked you yesterday and had a problem following you. I didn’t find the usual follow button at the top of the page as is usual for WP blogs. So, I tried the follow by the email button and got caught up in some Google web of additional sign ups. Might have been a hiccup, so I’ll have a look again tonight,.
Thanks for coming by!

Big thank you for stalking me too! I have a self-hosted site with a WP template (something like that) I had to add a lot of plugins to make things work, it’s possible that the follow button and/or e-mail button is outdated! If it doesn’t work when you try again, let me know, please. I have to do a proper site clean-up one of these days and see what I can change!
For now, have a fabulous weekend!

Yes! I had no record of my own family for so many years, and I didn’t realize what that did to me. I was an adult by the time I found where I came from and it made all the difference in many ways.
I think our children will be very happy some day, to be able to hear our voices as they really were.
